Dress for your shape - Hourglass
Posted on August 10,2012

Do you have a body to die for like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan? With perfectly balanced hips and shoulders and a defined waistline, you have what is considered to be the ideal body shape. The key for you is to emphasise those beautifully feminine curves and draw the eye to your waist. Remember, you don’t necessarily need to be a size 8-12 to be an hourglass, there are both smaller versions and bigger versions.

1. DRESSES

Go for soft cuts, which emphasise curves. Stay away from too structure and boxiness. Instead you suit tapered, fish tail or pencil style dresses.

2. TOPS

Curved necklines. Perfect necklines are scoop, rounded or V neck collars. Avoid defined angular necklines such as square necks.

3. JACKETS

Curved lapels and necklines on jackets flatter an hourglass shape perfectly. Flowing hemlines that skim your waist and fitted waists with little or no detail are also great styles.

4. BOTTOMS

Trousers that have a wide or boot leg worn on your hips are the be most flattering for you.

5. SKIRTS

You should wear tapered, fish tail or pencil style skirts to show off your natural curves.

6. BEST FABRICS

Luckily you there are a number of fabrics that work great for your figure such as smooth, fine wools, dainty silk materials, light suede, linens, corduroy, velvet and denim.

7. BEST PATTERNS

Soft/curved geometric abstract patterns, polka dots, weaves and floral patterns will flatter your shape perfectly, but do be aware that the patterns you choose should be worn in proportion to your overall size.

8. BELTS

Wear belts that sit on your waist, they emphasise the smallest and one of the sexiest parts of your body.

9. DEFINE YOUR WAIST

Wear tops that sit on your waist, the eye will stop here at the slimmest part of your body. If you wear longer tops then it’s harder to notice that you even possess a waist but you can still pull this look off with detail that pulls the waistline in. Always avoid tops that are any shorter than your natural waistline.

10. SHAPE

As a general rule, the cut of your clothing should be soft and mirror the shape of your body. Avoid the boxy look as you will instantly lose those curves and straight styles need to contain fabrics that mould to your curves.
